China matches families to children every month (called a referral), usually at the beginning of the month. They match families by the date they were logged in at the China Center of Adoption Affairs in Beijing. We were logged in on March 28, 2006.
This week the April matches came out and families logged in between January 5 and January 9th 2006 were matched. Therefore they continue to move very, very slowly in the matching process. If they continue matching only 5 or so days per month then Scott and I have about 12 to 14 more months to wait. Each month I'll post which dates were matched. I feel so badly for a group of waiting parents at our adoption agency (Wide Horizons For Children) as their date was January 10th and they missed it this month by one day! They thought for sure they would be getting "the call" this week.
So...we will continue to wait and wait for China. Strangely, we now want it to be slow as we have to wait 12 months between adopting from Russia and China. This is an agency rule that was created to ensure that the first child has significant time to become adjusted. There are many reasons/rumors as to why China is moving slowly - The Olympics and not wanting to look like a "baby factory", increase of domestic adoption in China, increase in the amount of parents wanting to adopt from China, etc.
So...that is it on China for this month...Today is our 2 month anniversary for Russia and we are expecting a call any day!!!!!
